Our on-site Rehab, Dietary, Social Work, and Activities departments provide personalized and compassionate care to each guest. Unlike other facilities that use "contracted" staff members, each member of the team at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant is directly employed, not "contracted". Jason Alexander grew up in northern Michigan and attended Northwood University. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 2000 while majoring in Hospitality Management and Marketing/Management. Jason began his hospitality management career in the hotel industry in the metro Detroit area and was introduced to the healthcare profession in 2003 when he started as an Admissions / Marketing Coordinator for a nursing facility in Northern Michigan. He went on to obtain his Nursing Home Administrator License in 2005 and served for several years as the Administrator for a Sault Ste. Marie based facility before accepting the Administrator position at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant in 2011. Jason enjoys getting to know the residents and their families and making a difference in their lives every day. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 young children. Other pastimes include watching his kids sports and traveling when possible.
Director of Nursing
Kathy grew up in the Gladwin area and attended Davenport University in Midland where she earned a degree in Nursing. Kathy has been in nursing administration for more than 16 years in a variety of settings. Overall, she has been in the nursing field for over 30 years. Kathy enjoys camping with friends and family on the weekends and making toys out of wood with her husband.
Rehabilitation Services Director
Wayne Wagner has a degree as a Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant with 17 years of experience. He has a diverse background of therapies including geriatric care, acute hospital, school based, and outpatient therapy including skilled hand therapy. Wayne enjoys assisting residents in gaining their highest abilities back in order to return to their home. His diverse background provides him the skills to lead the therapy team and make them the best in the area. Wayne also enjoys camping with his wife, outdoor activities with his 2 children, and watching sports.
Director of Marketing
Kara Bouman has a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing & Management and currently serves as Director of Marketing. Kara is committed to the community and is a proud member of the Mt. Pleasant Jaycees, Shepherd Chamber of Commerce, C.A.R.E (Compassionate Associates Reaching the Elderly). Kara was awarded the Eagle Award from the Mt. Pleasant Chamber of Commerce in 2015. In 2018, Kara was a Hammer Award winner for the My 104.3 WCZY & Hammer Restoration for her service in the community! Kara's experience in the medical field and joy of working with the elderly brought her to Laurel Health Care Company.
